Ushuaia Breaks Record with Arrival of 19 Cruise Ships

The port of Ushuaia in Argentina welcomed a record number of cruise ships in late December, with the arrival of 19 vessels over three days

According to 24 Horas, the ships brought approximately 10,600 passengers to the town, which serves as a starting point for expeditions to AntarcticaThe lineup included a mix of smaller expedition ships and larger premium vessels, with visits from brands such as Atlas Ocean, Lindblad-National Geographic, Princess Cruises, Quark and Swan Hellenic. 

The record was set over the last weekend of the year, with ships arriving between December 26 and December 28, 2025

Ushuaia’s Tourism Authority highlighted the economic impact of the activity, noting that the port is one of the main tourist hubs in Argentina “Every cruise that arrives means work, economic activity, and opportunities for hundreds of families in Tierra del Fuego,” Ushuaia’s Tourism Secretary Viviana Manfredotti was quoted as saying She added that the town has a strategic position in the region due to its geographic location and overall infrastructure“Ushuaia is the gateway to the Antarctic continent. We have a deep-water port and an international airport that make us a key point in world tourism.

Town authorities stated that the vessels brought a significant volume of visitors to the Tierra del Fuego National ParkOver 4,700 tourists visited the attraction during the timeframe, with 4,200 hailing from foreign countries and 500 from Argentina.

The minor incident took place on January 6 and involved the Viking Octantis and Atlas Ocean’s World Voyager. While the collision was captured on camera, the ships did not suffer significant damage and were cleared to continue their sailings as scheduled.
