From May 29 to November 5 1970, the balsa wood raft La Balsa, led by Spanish captain Vital Alsar, embarked on a 160-day adventure across the Pacific Ocean!

Starting in Ecuador and landing in Mooloolaba, Australia, this incredible journey covered around 8,000km (5,000 miles) and showcased the resilience and navigation skills of its crew.

Facing storms and limited resources, they proved that ancient cultures could indeed make such long-distance voyages.
