Have your say on proposed amendments

Dear members

We have opened consultation on amendments to Marine Order 11 (living and working conditions) 2015. These amendments relate to the protection of seafarer wages and entitlements in the event they are held captive on, or off ship, due to acts of piracy or armed robbery against ships. They apply to regulated Australian vessels and foreign vessels.

Amendments to the Maritime Labour Convention 2006 (MLC) were approved by the International Labour Organization on 5 June 2018. We are now proposing to implement these amendments through Marine Order 11 (Living and working conditions on vessels) Amendment Order 2021, by 1 June 2021.

The focus of the consultation is on implementing the MLC amendments, and not on the amendments themselves. It is not a full review of the marine order.

Find out more about the amendments to Marine Order 11.
