The Company of Master Mariners website provides articles of interest to Master Mariners, Seafarers, the Maritime Industry and the public. We feature reports on Australian and International Maritime and Shipping affairs, Upcoming Events in the Maritime Industry, our CMMA newsletter the “Master Mariner”, and “Stories from the Past” about historic ships and maritime events. A “Members Only” section contains records of membership, branch and Federal Court meetings and other matters of interest to members. The Company of Master Mariners of Australia is a not for profit organization.
About The Company of Master Mariners of Australia (CoMMA)
The Company of Master Mariners of Australia is an association established to promote the interests and status of the Merchant Navy generally and of Master Mariners in particular. The Company was founded in 1938 by Capt.A.N. Boulton, MBE, VRD, BCom, ExC and became an incorporated body in 1988. The Company of Master Mariners of Australia Limited is a not for profit professional association that is limited by guarantee. The Company has six Branches based in Fremantle, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Newcastle and Brisbane.
The Company has a number of aims and objectives. The principal aims, inter alia, are as follows :
a) to provide in Australia a unified body of Master Mariners capable of collective representation on all occasions and in all matters affecting their interests or the status of the Merchant Navy and its Officers
b) to carry on its activities to maintain an apolitical and non industrial emphasis
c) to create and sustain a social organization of privileges within which members, either alone or in association with others, can be afforded facilities, and occasion, to discuss matters of mutual interest connected with the Merchant Navy or any related aspect of maritime concern
d) to donate prizes or other awards or distinctions and institute and establish scholarship grants for young seamen both at sea and ashore.
